Pickup Driver Runs Underneath Tractor Trailer

January 18th, 2011

On Friday, a man from Roanoake’s pickup truck hit the back of a tractor-trailer and ran underneath of it. The man was announced dead at the scene on Interstate 81. The pickup truck driver, a 43-year-old man, was driving alone Botetourt County around 7:30am. He was heading northbound, nearest to mile marker 152.7 at the time of the crash. His pickup truck crashed into the Freightliner truck, says the Virginia State Police. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed in the collision. The wreck remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed yet. “The Virginia State Police accident reconstruction team and the motor carrier division were brought in to assist,” says a police officer.

According to news reports, all northbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed due to the fatal car accident, reported the Virginia Department of Transportation. The left lane reopened at 8:20am, and by 10:30 the wreckage was completely cleared. As a Virginia car accident attorney, my thoughts are with the pickup driver in this tragic accident. I look forward to hearing more once investigators discover the exact circumstances to this collision. I urge my readers to stay safe by avoiding dangerous situations with semi-trucks and wearing a seat belt at all times in order to avoid injury, and if you are injured in an auto accident, consult with a car accident lawyer Virginia.
