Bicyclist Hit on Route 199

A Wednesday night bicycle collision ended in tragedy for a 31-year-old man riding his bike along Route 199. Emergency responders came to Route 199, near to John Tyler Highway, just before 10:15pm due to reports of a bicycle accident. The man riding his bike in the westbound lanes was hit and killed by a 2002 Chevy Tohoe driving west. A James City Police officer said the bicyclist was attempting to cross the lanes of traffic toward the center divide when a Tahoe slammed into him, killing the bicyclist instantly. None of the vehicle’s occupants were injured.

According to news reports, westbound traffic along Route 199 was closed for around four hours while police investigated the collision. So far, no charges have been filed. Reports indicate the bicyclist was not using a light or reflective clothing, and may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. As a Virginia personal injury lawyer, my thoughts are with the family of the bicyclist. I hope investigations reveal more about this crash. If you or a loved one were hurt in a reckless bicycle wreck, discuss your case with a car accident lawyer Virginia who can evaluate your claim and help protect your rights.
