Fed-Ex Tractor-Trailer Crash Ends in Tragedy

A two-car accident Thursday on Interstate 81 involving a FedEx tractor-trailer is under investigation. The crash happened just after 1:20pm, near the northbound I-81 rest area near the Virginia state line. “We have one fatality, one badly injured that was flown out and we have a child involved,” Berkeley County Sheriff Kenneth “Kenny” Lemaster Jr. said at the scene. “We’ve got a piggy back tractor trailer and it looks maybe the vehicle went up under one of the trailers.”

The Toyota Corolla male driver was found dead at the scene of the collision. A female passenger was flown to a nearby hospital via helicopter. Another passenger was brought to Winchester Medical Center. The conditions of all vehicle occupants are not known at this time, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. “Somehow the tractor trailer and this vehicle made contact. We haven’t determined in what capacity that was yet,” Lemaster said.

According to news reports, the northbound I-81 lanes were shut-down after the crash. As a Virginia personal injury lawyer, my thoughts are with everyone involved in this crash and I hope those who were hurt heal quickly and fully from their injuries. If you or a loved one were harmed in an auto accident, discuss your case with a Virginia car accident lawyer.
