Complaints Pile Up Against Toning Shoes
Toning shoe wearers claim they are experiencing physical harm from wearing them. The shoes claim to improve balance and increase fitness, but many consumers are not experiencing their supposed benefits and some are suffering injuries from using them. Attorney Andy Bederman of Greenberg and Bederman took 400 calls regarding toning shoe injuries since May. One of those callers was a woman who sustained broken toes from falling while wearing the shoes in March. “The design of the shoe is unstable. It frequently causes the ankle to roll inward or outward and then the person falls and suffers all types of injuries” said Bederman.
According to news reports, Skechers defended its product through a written statement, “Rocker bottom shoes also have been sold commercially since at least 1996—with no significant reports of injury until just recently, and those claims remain unproven.” Bederman wants see the product eventually taken off the market for causing pain and suffering.
Since April, 70 complaints have been posted on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s “Safer Products” message board. The amount of complaints come as no surprise to Amanda Adkins, Director of Outpatient Rehab at Anne Arundel Medical Center. She explains the shoes are not meant for everybody, since they affect the wearer’s balance and change their walking pattern.
As a toning shoe injury attorney, I hope that nobody is adversely affected by this product. If you or a loved one were harmed by toning shoes, discuss your case with a toning shoe injury lawyer who can evaluate your claim, assess your case, and answer any important legal questions you may have regarding your case.
