Motorcyclist Collides in Suffolk

On Monday afternoon, a motorcyclist collided in Suffolk. The 38-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries in the wreck, said a representative for Virginia State Police. The wreck happened when a 2011 Kawasaki motorcyclist was driving onto an off ramp from I-664 when they suddenly lost control of the motorcycle. She crashed into a guardrail, and both driver and passenger were ejected. The crash happened around 2pm. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, while the 22-year-old passenger is undergoing treatment at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. According to news reports, both riders wore helmets at the time of the collision.

A crash on the Capital Beltway’s Inner Loop involved three tour buses headed from Dallastown, Pennsylvania to D.C. The wreck happened when a box truck hit the back of a bus just after traffic was slowing. The bus was damaged and disabled in the wreck. Two other buses crashed on the beltway in two different crashes, also, according to news reports. In the first bus crash, eight passengers sustained injuries to their neck and back. In the second wreck, one passenger sustained an injury, while there were no reports of injuries ion the third wreck. 13 of 80 passengers were taken to the hospital altogether for treatment of minor injuries. The wreck remains under investigation by Maryland State Police.

A car veered from US 58 in Martinsville and fell 150 feet, said the Virginia State Police. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. The wreck happened at approximately 5pm near Route 640. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, but they believe the driver veered onto the shoulder and lost control of the vehicle. Sketchers USA recently agreed pay $40 million in order to settle charges with the Federal Trade Commission. They claim Sketchers falsely advertised Shape-ups, claiming they’d help customer lose weight along with toning certain muscle groups. Customers will be able to request a refund from the FTC. “Skechers’ unfounded claims went beyond stronger and more toned muscles. The company even made claims about weight loss and cardiovascular health,” said David Vladeck, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “The FTC’s message, for Skechers and other national advertisers, is to shape up your substantiation or tone down your claims.” Several ads and commercials showed endorcements from celebrities, and made claims that the shoes resulted in more weight loss than other shoes. According to news reports, the company is now banned from making certain statements about the shoes.
