State Police Enforce Seat Belt Safety

May 14th, 2012

Maryland State Police are enforcing seat belt safety as part of the “Click it or Ticket” campaign. They want drivers and passengers to use their seat belts for their safety. They will be out during Memorial Day Weekend to encourage drivers to remain safe. Just this month alone, nearly 800 cars were stopped for various violations including seatbelt citations. “Remarkably, out of these traffic stops there were 266 seatbelt citations and 4 child restraint citations issued. So far this month troopers have made 11 DUI arrests and 10 narcotics arrests,” according to news reports. The Bel Air Barrack will also be working with MSP to ticket violators. They are also working to combat drunken drivers, and “High Visibility DUI Saturation Patrols” will be included in the campaign.

As a personal injury lawyer, I hope that fewer drivers and passengers suffer due to not wearing a seat belt. I always encourage drivers to use safety devices and avoid drunken driving and other distractions. I’ve handled many cases involving these types of situations which could have easily been avoided if a driver took the necessary steps to remain safe. If you or a loved one were harmed in an auto accident caused by a negligent driver, discuss your claim with a personal injury attorney who can evaluate your case and help protect your rights.
