Ford Windstar Recalled

Ford is recalling their 1997-2003 Windstar vehicles registered in Puerto Rico due to increased stress caused by high cycles of torsional loading which may result in a fractured axle leading to a car crash. Vehicle owners will be notified and dealers will replace the axles or install a reinforcement bracket free of cost. This service is scheduled to begin in May 2012. The safety recall campaign number is 12S30. Customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236, according to news reports.

The manufacturer has done so on account of various reports of electrical arcing, shock, melting and overheating in the charging base. Products that are battery operated and do not require a plug-in base are not affected with these symptoms, according to news reports. “Consumers who have the affected units should stop using them and return them to Church & Dwight for a full refund.  Consumers should call 1-888-709-4100 from  9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday” according to their press release.

Café-Tasse Noir (Dark) Belgian chocolate bars that were packaged without the warning the presence of milk trace, are being recalled by Cafe-Tasse, as consumers that are allergic or have severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product, according to news reports. The product was distributed in Virginia, Washington and California between January and mid-April. The lots affected by this recall were sold through seven retailers, who have been reached by the company. There have been no illnesses confirmed yet regarding this recall. The company destroyed any remaining products which may be unsafe. “Consumers who have purchased the Café-Tasse Noir 1.57 oz. bar with best before date of September 15, 2013 are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” states the news release.

Commuters Delayed After I-95 Crash

A crash on I-95 resulted in delays for commuters. The crash happened south of Willis Road after a motorcyclist attempted to flee from Virginia State Police. The motorcyclist committed at traffic violation around 7:40 and police tried pulling them over in Chesterfield county. Once the motorcyclist started fleeing from police, the officer was involved in a wreck. They sustained minor injuries in the wreck, which remains under investigation. The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Man Faces Charges After Running onto I-66

The 21-year-old man from Oakton who ran into I-66 traffic is now being charged with reckless driving and destruction of property after “interfering with passing vehicles on a highway.” The incident happened Monday while he was driving his Honda. He veered into opposing lanes of traffic and collided with a van, which caused his vehicle to smash into a Jersey wall. When the other car stopped to help the Honda driver, he left he vehicle and ran directly into traffic, hitting four cars. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital while the roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes. Alcohol and illegal drugs have been determined not to be factors in the wreck, according to news reports.

Trooper Sustains Minor Injuries After Chase

One trooper sustained minor injuries after a police chase involving a suspect driving over 100mph along I-95. The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist for violating traffic rules on I-95, south of the Route 10 interchange. The 29-year-old is now being held for a felony charge of eluding police, and additional charges are expected. The pursuit began when the officer attempted to stop him around 7:40pm and he fled from police. The suspect finally crashed when he tried swerving to avoid another motorist. Interstate 70 Crash Ends in Tragedy

A crash on Interstate 70 near Mapleville Road around 8am led to the death of one person, according to a Maryland State Police representative. A Toyota Corolla driver veered from the left side of the roadway and collided with an embankment. Driver Veers Over Route 152 Center Line

A 59-year-old male driving a Harford County Public Schools vehicle veered over the center lines of Route 152 recently. He crashed head-on into a GMC Terrain SUV. Another vehicle then smashed into the SUV, a Jeep Wrangler, in a chain-reaction colision. The 46-year-old GMC driver succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the wreck, and the driver of the public schools vehicle was taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. Another driver was recently released from the hospital, while someone else involved in the wreck is still in serious condition, but expected to survive, according to news reports.
