Veterans Benefits

As of June 20, 2007, veterans are allowed to retain an attorney after the first denial of Veterans Benefits by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the Notice of Disagreement stage. This law was passed because it is critical for disabled Veterans to obtain needed disability benefits. By allowing them to obtain an attorney, veterans have aid coping with the complicated, confusing and exhausting claims process.

Veterans of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard who are disabled due to injuries or diseases from active-duty service may be eligible for Disabled Veterans Benefits from the VA. Veterans are also entitled to compensation for disabilities incurred in or aggravated during active military service.
