An exit ramp in Chesterfield County recently closed due to a tractor-trailer crash. The wreck happened when the truck hauling potatoes overturned on the ramp from southbound state Route 288 onto I-95 around 4 in the morning. Officers attempted to keep the ramp shut-down until approximately 6am. Virginia State Police let traffic through the area in one lane. The truck was hauling 45,000 pounds of potatoes at the time of the wreck. Northbound US 1 onto Route 288 was also shut-down after the wreck, according to officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation. Emergency crews cleared the crash scene by mid-day. Police reports said that driver distraction is the cause of the wreck, and the 62-year-old trucker is being charged with reckless driving, according to news reports.
