The Distracted Driving Summit in Tampa will bring federal, state and local officials together to discuss the problem of texting while driving or talking on the phone while behind the wheel. Around 3,092 people have died since 2010 due to distracted driving. The summit will incorporate the stories of tragedies experienced by family members of those killed, along with transportation officials and experts in order to address their concerns. In one case, a 49-year-old man was killed when he caused a four-car pileup outside the Tampa Convention Center, according to news reports.

Two studies conducted with MIT AgeLab have shown there is a connection between typeface styles in cars and the time it takes to read and comprehend them. The studies showed that there are certain typestyles that can shorten the time it takes the driver to glance at text. The experiments used simulators that displayed various addresses, restaurant identification, and content search menus. Their movements were monitored with eye tracking devices.

Distracted by a cellphone, a man hits a teenager riding a bicycle on August 26th it was Sunday evening at approximately 8:30 pm. The teenager, 17 was then taken to the local hospital, in Hereford Township, PA. The man, 29, went back to the scene and was tested for alcohol.
