Despite a much larger number of holiday travelers during Memorial Day, there were three fewer auto accident victims along Virginia highways. From 12:01am on Friday to midnight on Monday, there were seven drivers and two passengers killed in wrecks which happened in several counties. The fact that victims were not wearing their seat belts in eight collisions disturbs a police officer. “As the summer driving season begins, we must emphasize to all drivers and passengers to take those few seconds to buckle up before getting behind the wheel or riding with someone,” the police officer said. “Those few seconds could save your life.” During the holiday weekend, 11,800 drivers were handed speeding violations, 3,000 cited for reckless driving, and 140 arrested for impaired driving. Over 6,600 citations were issued including intoxicated driving, according to news reports.
As a car accident lawyer, my thoughts are with everybody harmed in these wrecks. I hope next year’s holiday weekend ends with even fewer car collision fatalities. If you or someone dear to you was harmed due to an unsafe driver, you may want to get in touch with an attorney who can evaluate your case and help protect your legal rights. When you have an attorney on your side, you are more likely to get the results you deserve for your case. An attorney can answer any questions you have and fight hard to get the results you need.
