Third Suspect Charged in Pedestrian Death

A third suspect was charged in the death of a pedestrian. The 23-year-old was charged for failing to report a wreck to the police that resulted in injury or death. The suspect was driving the 2000 Ford F-150 when it hit and killed a female from Waynesboro. She was crossing the Stuarts Draft Highway at the time of the wreck. The suspect apparently fled from Virginia. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Waynesboro Police Department immediately. The other two suspects are currently being held in Middle River Regional Jail. They were both charged with failing to report an accident, according to news reports.

Kensington Man Killed Crossing Road

This morning, a man from Kensington was killed while attempting to cross a roadway, said Montgomery County Police. The 93-year-old was crossing the road when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla around 6:50am. The vehicle was traveling eastbound when the crash suddenly knocked the man into the center of the road. Two other cars also hit the pedestrian. They all stayed at the scene of the wreck after hitting the man. Charges have not been filed as of this afternoon. “It’s still under investigation as to who’s at fault, if anyone, whether speed was a factor or any of those other considerations,” said a police representative. A Maryland State Police helicopter took aerial photographs and the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene of the wreck, according to news reports.

Train Hits Man on Tracks Near Rt. 27

Thursday night, a man was hit by a train off Rt. 27 near the Rt. 140 overpass. The crash happened when the conductor said he noticed a man lying on the tracks and he sat up and laid back down again. They attempted to slow the train but were unable to do so in time to avoid a collision. A Maryland State Police lieutenant said the victim, a 29-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. Police do not suspect any foul play, however they do think the man was suicidal. “There doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious about this,” said the officer. “We are looking at suicide.” According to news reports, officials also believe the man was homeless. An autopsy is currently underway.

Police are searching for the next of kin of a 50-year-old pedestrian who was hit and killed Wednesday night. The incident represents the second pedestrian fatality in Delmar this week.
