On September 13, an avocado recall was announced by the Food and Drug Administration. Over 1,400 cases of avocado pulp and 1,800 avocado halves have been pulled from shelves by the Mexican Food Products company. Tests determined that Listeria Monocytogenes was detected in samples of the avocado, however no reported illnesses have resulted from them. The specific cases of pulp and halves were distributed in California and the products have a white FMP label on their container. “The avocado pulp was sold distributed in 2.2 lb. bags with a product code of 00115. The IQF avocado halves were in 3 lbs. bags with a product code of 00131. The recalled avocado products have expiration dates ranging from June to August 2012″ according to news releases. Production of the product has stopped, and the listeria source is under investigation.
