A beef recall put into effect January 10 has now been expanded by One Great Burger of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The 226,400 pounds of ground beef was initially recalled because the food safety plan set forth by the manufacturer was not adequate according to safety inspectors. The Food Safety Inspection Service has since then became aware of increased complaints concerning discoloration and off-odors. The decision to recall another group of ground beef products was made due to the potential for further food contamination. No illnesses have been reported yet concerning the potentially contaminated beef patties, which were distributed nationwide.
The newest addition to the recall includes 4-pound boxes of “Winn Dixie beef patty 100% BEEF” which each contain 16 frozen beef patties, weighing 1/4 pound each. They have establishment number “EST. 34575″ printed inside the USDA mark of inspection on its packaging. They were produced from January 2010 to May 2010 and their “packed on” dates range from July 2010 to November 2010. For additional information, contact John Haug at 973-477-9039.
