Black Licorice Recalled for High Lead Levels

Lucky Country Inc. announced a product recall (One Lot of Lucky Country Aussie Style Soft Gourmet Black Licorice with Natural Ingredients) due to a recent analysis showed that this product contained lead levels as high as 0.18 parts per million which could provide up to 7.2 micrograms of lead per serving. This Week’s Top Recalls

Several recalls were recently announced due to chances the products could lead to a fire, injuries, or illness. They include the Bumbo Baby Seats, General Electric dishwashers, and four met food products. The baby seats were declared unsafe since babies can potentially get out of them and fall from the seat. Around 1 million were included in a recall back in 2007, and since then there have been 50 more incidents relating to problems caused from babies falling from the seats. They were sold in Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target, along with other retailers and online between 2003 and 2012. Customers are urged to stop using the seats and contact the company for details regarding a repair of the product. You can also get a replacement for the unsafe seats.

The next products included in a recall this week were the GE dishwashers. Several models including Adora, Eterna, Profile and Hotpoint were part of the recall, which was announced due to an electrical failure. There were 15 reports of dishwasher heating elements failing, which resulted in fires and property damage. The dishwashers were sold throughout various retailers, and in stores across the country from 2006-2009. Customers are urged to disconnect the dishwasher immediately and contact GE for a free in-home repair or rebate towards a new dishwasher.

Several food recalls were instigated including cantaloupes, Clif Bars, meat, cilantro, pinenuts, licorice, grape tomatoes, sandwich products,and pesto sea crackers.

The Canon EOS RebelT4i digital SLR camera was recalled due to a chemical in the rubber grips which may lead to skin irritation. One customer developed a rash after using the product. They were sold in various stores including Best Buy and Amazon between June and July. Those who purchased this product are urged to return it as soon as possible in order to get a replacement.

General Motors announced the recall of Chevy Express and GMC Savanna vehicles. They were sold throughout the country in states such as Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Missouri, and New Jersey. The problem was discovered when it was found that contaminants may get stuck in the protective conduit which may lead to pipe corrosion, and the risk of a fire. GM will install a new fuel filler neck free for vehicle owners.

Finally, a Kawasaki motorcycle was recalled due to an engine leak. If the oil were to spill onto a back tire, a collision may result, according to news reports.

Travel Trailers Announces Gas Valve Defect

The National Highway Transportation and Safety Authority, a division of the United States government, has announced that Thor Industries noticed a possible failure in its travel trailers that carry the Crossroads name. The gas valve was determined to be faulty and can leak fuel and cause ignition, leading to death and injury.

Bumbo Baby Seats Recalled for Fall Hazard

Approximately 4 million Bumbo Baby Seats were recalled because a child may fall from the seat, which can prove especially hazardous if the seat is located on a countertop or table. There were as few as 45 falling incidents the agency was aware of when the product’s defect was first discovered. The firm decided to announce a recall when more reports of injuries were made. Consumer Reports advises that parents not use baby seats, and instead use a bouncer seat or activity center, and place a child in a high chair for feeding time. If you are a customer who owns this product, stop using it immediately and contact the company for a repair kit, according to news reports.

Productos Tita Corp is recalling their Quesito Colombiano Colombian Cheese, sold in the metropolitan New York area, as a precautionary measure due to the improper pasteurization of the milk used in the cheese. The product is sold in both plastic pouches and clear rectangular plastic tubs and is labeled with the brand name “Tita” and the plant code 36-8440.

Class I Recall for Anethesia Systems Announced

On July 6, 2012, Maquet Critical Care AB and Maquet Medical Systems USA announced a voluntary recall for three of its FLOW-I Anesthesia Systems. The C20, C30, and C40 units are being recalled due to a malfunction when the MAN/AUTO switch is left in between the on and off positions, resulting in the machine not switching to ventilation mode when necessary.
