Invokana®: The Diabetes Drug Now Linked To Heart Attack and Stroke...

Millions of Americans with type-2 diabetes may have been prescribed a drug that puts them at serious increased risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack) or stroke.

The popular diabetes drug in question is Invokana® (canagliflozin), an SGLT2 inhibitor class of drug that was introduced in 2013 and has quickly become one of the most commonly prescribed medications for type-2 diabetics.

Invokana® works by altering kidney function so as to increase frequency of urination, which in turn allows the body to excrete higher levels of glucose. But now we learn the dangers...

DANGER: Higher Risk of Stroke...

Doctors claim that Invokana® dangerously increases the likelihood of stroke due to the drug's active ingredient "canagliflozin", which is believed to increase a patient's "hematocrit levels" (red blood cell concentration) to concerning levels.

Elevated hematocrit levels literally make the blood "thicker", increasing the likelihood that a patient develop a blood clot which could lead to a stroke.

DANGER: Higher Risk of Heart Attack...

Not only does an elevated hematocrit level put you at risk of stroke, but the blood clots that develop as a result cause heart attacks as well.

Additionally, Invokana® manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceutica's own studies showed that Invokana® caused patients to have higher cholesterol... including an increase in the more dangerous, LDL "bad" cholesterol.

This combination of higher hematocrit and higher cholesterol levels put diabetics at an even greater cardiovascular risk.

Meeting at FDA about Invokana Cardiovascular Risks

Doctors Explain Safety Fears of Invokana® At FDA Meeting...

Two months prior to Invokana® being released to market, a special meeting took place at the FDA's Endocrinologic & Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee (EMDA) to discuss Invokana®'s dangers.

At this meeting, both doctors and biostatisticians shared concerns about the evidence suggesting Invokana® can cause serious cardiovascular complications.

Doctors Argue Against Approval of Invokana® Due To Safety Concerns

Dr. Sidney Wolfe (Director of Public Citizen Health Research Group) explained at the FDA meeting that in one study, thirteen (13) subjects on Invokana® suffered "cardiovascular events", compared to just one (1) event in the placebo group.

Dr. Wolfe also explained to the FDA that "there is much more of an increase in hematocrit in the people getting canagliflozin [Invokana®]".

Hematocrit is a marker for concentration of red blood cells. Per Dr. Wolfe's analysis, of which he presented at the FDA meeting, at least 25% of patients taking Invokana® would see their hematocrit level rise to "a very dangerous range" -- as Dr. Wolfe described it.

Even The New York Times Reported On Invokana®'s Known Stroke & Heart Attack Risks...

Back in 2013 when Invokana® first hit the market, even The New York Times reported on the many potentially serious risks associated with the drug.

The FDA, biostatisticians, physicians and mainstream news media were all sharing the data suggesting there is heart attack and stroke risks with Invokana®...

...But Janssen Pharmaceuticals decided to LEAVE OFF these cardiovascular warnings on their label!

FDA Official: 690% Higher Likelihood of Cardiovascular Event On Invokana®

At the FDA Committee hearing, FDA biostatistician Dr. Mat Soukop shared shocking data from the Invokana® CANVAS clinical trial of 4,300 subjects...

Dr. Soukop testified that the statistics showed that in the first 30-days of Invokana® use, patients had a 690% increased chance of suffering a cardiovascular event (such as heart attack or stroke), compared to patients taking the placebo.

Type-2 Diabetics Already At 2x Risk of Heart Attack & Stroke -- Invokana® Makes The Risks Even Worse!

Dr. Hyon Kwon, Clinical Review Advisor for the FDA, also testified at the committee hearing, sharing his observations that there was "an imbalance in early cardiovascular events" seen in the Invokana® CANVAS trial.

Type-2 diabetics are already an "at-risk" group for cardiovascular events, with TWICE the risk of heart attack and stroke than those without diabetes.

So adding an ADDITIONAL increase for heart attack or stroke with Invokana® use on this already "at-risk" diabetic community, is a serious matter!

Invokana®: Were Physicians & Their Patients Properly Warned?

You may be asking yourself right now, "Why wasn't this cardiovascular risk disclosed to me?"

And more importantly, "Did my physician know about these risks for heart attack and stroke when I was prescribed this medication?"

ANSWER: What Every Patient Should Know...

It's important, as a patient, to understand that there are strict rules that pharmaceutical companies must adhere to (as mandated by the FDA), that ensure doctors and their patients are properly informed of the risks associated with any drug.

Drug companies are forced, by law, to disclose all known health risks associated with their drug.

They disclose these risks on the drug's "label", in the form of a warning.

INVOKANA®: ZERO Warning For Heart Attacks and Strokes

Despite all the cardiovascular risk data presented at the FDA hearing, despite Health Group's testimony, despite mainstream news pointing out these risks... Janssen Pharmaceutical may have FAILED TO PROPERLY WARN both patients and doctors of the KNOWN RISKS of heart attack and stroke with Invokana®.

You (the patient), and your doctor, may NEVER have been granted the opportunity every patient deserves to make an informed decision about the use of particular drug.

The Manufacturers of Invokana® May Have Known About The Increased Risks... Yet Failed To Properly Warn Patients and Their Doctors About The Risks

Lawsuits against Janssen Pharmaceutical® (maker of Invokana®) may allege that they knew of the increased risks of myocardial infarction (heart attack) and stroke with their prescription Invokana® diabetes medication, yet failed to properly warn patients and doctors about the risks and negative side effects.

What To Do If You Suffered A Stroke or Heart Attack While Taking Invokana® For Diabetes

The law protects patients from dangerous drugs that can cause serious harm...

If you (or a loved one) used Invokana® for diabetes and subsequently suffered a stroke or heart attack (myocardial infarction), this may be the most important message you will ever read.

Here is why...

The popular diabetes medication Invokana® has been linked to these cardiovascular risks...

  • Heart Attack (myocardial infarction)
  • Stroke

When Drug Manufacturers Fail To Properly Warn of Dangers, Innocent Patients Become Victims

As a result of the manufacturer of Invokana® failing to properly warn patients and doctors of these cardiovascular risks, you or your loved one likely suffered emotional and physical stress, along with unintended financial burdens -- like doctor or hospital visits, time off work, necessary treatments and/or surgeries to recover from a stroke or heart attack.

Why should you suffer and be responsible for the injury caused by a drug manufacturer's mistake?

As a victim of a drug that potentially FAILED to properly warn you of such stroke and heart attack risks with their medication, you may be entitled to what are called "money damages", which is a legal term for money awarded from individual lawsuits, settlements and class action lawsuits.

All potential Invokana® lawsuits are currently being investigated on the grounds that Janssen Pharmaceutical® (maker of Invokana®)...

  • failed to properly warn patients and doctors of known cardiovascular risks
