On August 7, 2015 the F.D.A. issued a Class 1 Recall (the most severe of recalls) warning everyone who had hip replacement surgery of serious complications linked to the MicroPort® Profemur Modular-Neck Hip Implant device -- a widely-used device implanted in patients.

The manufacturer of the implant, MicroPort® Orthopedics, began noticing a large number of reported fractures of the Profemur Neck Varus/Valgus CoCR (Part #PHAC1254), made from June 15, 2009 to July 22, 2015.

The recall has been in effect since August 7th.
